Family Law
Compassionate and competent lawyers safeguarding your family
The attorneys of Svalina Law Office, P.A. work hard to get the best results for the individuals, couples, and families who come to us with their family law matters. Each case brings its own unique set of challenges and we tailor our services to meet each client's needs. We make sure our client's understand the legal process they will face.
We represent individuals, couples, and families in a broad range of family law matters:
Divorce. Divorce is legal termination of a marriage, and occurs when both parties go through a process that can take longer than one year. We can inform you of your legal options, provide experienced guidance, and protect your rights throughout the divorce process.
Separation. A legal separation is a legal distinction where the parties remain married, but a court or separation agreement governs what will happen with issues like child custody, child support, and spousal support. However, a married couple can separate without going to court on the basis of a mutual understanding or, preferably, a written agreement drafted by a lawyer. We can provide such assistance.
Spousal support. This is a periodic payment from one former spouse to the other for either a fixed period of time or without a time limitation. We can help whether you are the spouse providing or receiving the payment.
Premarital agreements. This is the written contract between two people who are entering a marriage that delineates the parties' rights and responsibilities, usually the financial relationship. We provide negotiation and preparation services for these agreements.
Child custody and visitation. The legal custody of a child under the age of 18 can be a difficult matter to resolve. The court will always do what is in the best interests of the child. The physical and legal custody of a child and visitation is often addressed during divorce proceedings and can also be determined without a divorce action in Family Court. We help protect you and your child's rights.
Child support. These are payments from one parent to the other for the support of their children. A standard formula calculates the initial amount of child support payments due, but time and changed circumstances may alter that amount. For example, a child's cost for education and living often increase over time, or parent can lose or change jobs. We ensure that your child is provided for with fair support from both parents.
